Swallow began her career in Broadway theater, which she acted in a variety of productions including High Fidelity, King Lear, The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Guthrie Theater, Much Ado About Nothing for Shakespeare in the Park, and the first-ever off-Broadway world premieres of shows Romantic Poetry and Measure for Pleasure. Swallow was the first actress to play a film role on screen in The Lucky Ones, a 2009 military-themed drama. Then she appeared on Southland as well as Ringer, The Good Wife as well as NCIS. The actress was also a part of The Mentalist, playing FBI agent Kim Fischer. In the 11th season of Supernatural which aired in 2015, she was cast as Amara"the Darkness "the Darkness". Beginning in 2019, she assumed the role of Armorer on Star Wars: The Mandalorian. This was her debut appearance as the traditionalist Mandalorians the leader. The Mandalorians who are traditional don't take off their helmets so that others can observe. In Season 3 her character appears much more prominent since the story is focused on the Mandalorians and their traditions, not just Mandalorians.
